Ruth Simpson
Ruth is the head of International Alert’s Conflict Hub, an expert team dedicated to integrating conflict-sensitive practice.
As Head of the Conflict Hub, Ruth provides guidance, advice, training and support to a range of peacebuilding, development and humanitarian partners on integrating conflict sensitivity and enhancing peacebuilding practice.
Prior to her current role, Ruth was Alert’s Country Director for Lebanon and led on conflict prevention and peacebuilding advisory services for the Middle East Region. She provided strategic oversight of the programme and expert advice on design and monitoring and evaluation for peacebuilding, conflict prevention, conflict sensitivity, social cohesion and preventing violence.
Before joining International Alert, Ruth worked with a number of international NGOs, providing technical advice and capacity-building support, and managing peacebuilding and armed violence prevention programmes in central and east Africa, MENA and Latin America, with a focus on programme design and strengthening monitoring, evaluation and learning, and impact assessment.
She has an MA in International Law and Conflict Resolution, within which she specialised in mediation, peacebuilding, transitional justice and reconciliation. She has published, co-authored and peer reviewed several papers and academic articles related to peacebuilding, resilience, peace education and violence prevention.
