Mariam is responsible for the strategic oversight and effective management of Alert’s work across the Asia-MENA region. She works alongside our country leads and teams to implement impactful peacebuilding programmes in Lebanon, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Syria and Tunisia.
Prior to Joining Alert Mariam was the co-lead for Tearfund’s Fragile States and Peacebuilding Unit working directly with grassroots peacebuilders and local NGO’s addressing the root causes of conflict; as well as several years in humanitarian programming in West, Central and East Africa, the Kurdish region of Iraq and Latin America.
She is a graduate in Theology and Religious Studies, and a postgrad of Conflict Regulation in Divided Societies. Born and raised in London to Egyptian parents, making her bilingual.
