Jessica Hartog

Jessica Hartog
Head of Natural Resource Management and Climate Change

Jessica leads our work on climate security and conflicts around access and protection of land, water and forests.

She works closely with country teams and partners to develop and improve understanding and approaches to reducing conflicts due to climate change and competition over natural resources. A flagship project that Jessica manages is the Water, Peace and Security partnership.

Jessica is responsible for ensuring our work in the various countries Alert operates in informs our global engagements and advocacy work. She focuses on advocating for increased climate finance to fragile and conflict-affected countries and the urgent need for a conflict-sensitive and peace-promoting lens to be applied to climate finance and action.

Before joining Alert, Jessica worked with ActionAid International, where she provided strategic leadership on the organisation’s resilience programme and advocacy work, all through a women’s leadership lens. Prior to that, she worked with organisations such as HelpAge International, the UN Mission in South Sudan, CARE Somalia, CARE South Sudan, Cordaid and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Jessica holds an MA in Advanced Development Studies from Radboud University Nijmegen (Netherlands), an MA in Governance and Development from University of Antwerp (Belgium) and a combined MSc and BSc in Public Administration from Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands).
