Senior Fundraising Consultant

  • Salary: £800/day
  • Contract duration: 2-3 days per week for up to 6 months, dependent on milestones and review
  • Location: Central London at Alert’s office in Vauxhall, with regular in-person meetings in and around London, and potential travel to other parts of the UK or Europe

International Alert seeks an experienced and well-networked fundraiser with the confidence and drive to build financial support for our next steps as an organisation, at a crucial time for peacebuilding.

The consultant will provide strategic fundraising advice and hands-on business development support to help Alert maximise philanthropic opportunities, including those arising from a proposed merger process.

Key requirements and experience

Essential

– A track record of success leading the development of funding pipelines among a mainly non-government set of donors, working directly with top organisational management

– Strong knowledge of and networks in the UK philanthropic sectors likely to be most relevant to the requirements set out above

– A high level of familiarity with an international NGO environment, e.g. humanitarian, development, peacebuilding, preferably including direct experience of working in such an organisation

– Strong relationship-building skills, able to lead meetings with prospective donors as well as accompany and brief the ED to do so

– The ability to tell a clear, compelling and tailored story of impact to donors, drawing on a range of organisational materials

– Strong collaboration skills, both inside and outside the organisation

– High levels of discretion and ability to manage confidential information

– Working regularly in Central London – at least two-thirds of the time in Alert’s Vauxhall office, probably in a Tuesday-Thursday pattern, as well as regular in-person meetings in and around London. Flexibility to travel as required around the UK or Europe (expenses will be covered for such travel in line with Alert’s expense policy).

Desirable

– Experience of securing funding or building a pipeline for organisational development or innovation initiatives such as mergers

– Some knowledge of peacebuilding and conflict issues and trends.
