Veronica joined International Alert in March 2024 as Head of Peace Economies. In this role, she oversees Alert’s efforts to shape economic systems that support lasting solutions to violence. This includes harnessing the positive impact of business and investment for peace, including by private investors and development finance institutions.

Veronica has over ten years’ experience establishing and leading teams, policy, programming and research on conflict and governance issues. Prior to joining Alert, she worked for the UK government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, most recently as Head of the UK’s International Centre of Expertise on Illicit Finance. Veronica’s technical expertise includes political economy analysis, conflict sensitivity and anti-corruption.

Veronica has a Master’s degree in Conflict, Security and Development from the University of Birmingham and a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic and French languages from the University of Manchester. She has published research on traditional security and justice in the Horn of Africa.
