Former Director of Policy, Advocacy and Communications

Mark worked for International Alert in 2021/2022, as Director of Policy, Advocacy and Communications and leading the organisation’s external influencing and communications.

Prior to joining Alert, Mark led global advocacy and campaigns for Malala Fund, founded by Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai. Previously, Mark headed up advocacy for girls’ rights federation Plan International and influencing for youth-led development agency Restless Development, where he also acted as Sierra Leone country director. Mark has also worked with global civil society alliance CIVICUS, intergovernmental organization the Commonwealth Foundation and human rights body the Independent Jamaican Council for Human Rights. In the UK, Mark has advised several Labour Party MPs, including serving from 2017 to 2018 as Political Advisor to Kate Osamor MP, Shadow Secretary of State for International Development.

Mark studied Latin American and Caribbean Politics at the University of London and Social and Political Sciences at Cambridge University. As well as the UK, Mark has lived and worked in South Africa, Barbados and Sierra Leone.
