Climate change and security in Tajikistan
Building resilient communities
This project aimed to increase the resilience of local communities and institutions to the effects of climate and environmental change in Tajikistan.
Tajikistan faces significant risks to energy, food security and rural livelihoods in the face of melting glaciers and changing water tables. It also lacks the capacity to adapt to these challenges. It is therefore vitally important to increase the country's resilience to climate and environmental change.
Through a combination of research, discussions and knowledge sharing, we helped to strengthen people's understanding of these challenges and improve their ability to respond to them. We raised awareness and understanding among donors, development agencies and local people of the interconnected nature of climate change and peace in the country.
We also brought together those working to build resilience locally with donor and government policy-makers, and highlighted the importance of governance issues in strengthening resilience.
