You called on the UK government to tackle violent conflict now
At a time when wars are on the rise and 68 million people have been forced from their homes, we must make sure conflict prevention stays on the agenda. As the government makes plans to leave the European Union, this is an important chance to ensure peacebuilding is an integral part of the UK’s role in the world.
In 2018, International Alert - and more than 2000 supporters - asked the UK government to stand up for people whose lives are being destroyed by conflict and commit to long-term peacebuilding measures. The campaign helped us to secure a meeting with senior leadership in the Foreign Office to discuss how the UK can lead the way in reversing the devastating trend in violence.
It has become clear that current debates around Brexit have left little room for a comprehensive discussion of the UK’s future role in peacebuilding, with much drowned out in the political confusion. Unfortunately we have no choice but to put the campaign on hold for the time being.
Of course, we will continue to push political leaders in the UK to commit to an active role in building peace worldwide – and we thank you for supporting us to stand up for peacebuilding and hope you’ll continue to do so in the future.
