The UN High Level Panel looking at development goals after 2015 is coming to London and will meet representatives of British development NGOs who, it seems, don’t want to discuss development with them.

International Alert co-hosted a roundtable discussion on free, prior and informed consent (FPIC)[1] with the Centre for Economic and Social Development-Myanmar Development Resource Institute in Yangon, Myanmar on 6th October 2012.

This is part of their ‘Ensuring responsible and conflict-sensitive investments and businesses through multistakeholder collaboration in Southeast Asia’ project, which is also supported by the ASEAN Programme Fund.

On Tuesday 9th, International Alert in Rwanda launched our report, Healing fractured lives, and the accompanying film (see my previous post) based on the photography of Carol Allen Storey.

The people of Rwanda have come a long way since the 1994 genocide that took nearly a million lives. Yet the stories captured in our Fractured Lives photo exhibition show that survivors, ex-combatants and ex-prisoners are still struggling to rebuild their lives.

The debate over what happens after 2015 is beginning to heat up. The Rio+20 conference on sustainable development saw an attempt to develop an alternative set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while the formation of a High Level Panel of World Leaders has focussed minds on what might replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Here at International Alert, we’re always looking for new and better ways of sharing our work with you.

International Alert is bringing back the very successful photographic exhibition, Media and Modern Conflict: A Role for Peace just in time for the Olympics, in partnership with Getty Images and Panos Pictures.

The signatories of this statement hereby express our concern regarding the return to war in the territory of Rutshuru in North Kivu, between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and the armed group, M23. The on-going violence could possibly revive tensions between ethnic communities in the Kivus as well as have a negative impact on economic development, including on cross-border trade by small traders which sustains hundreds of thousands of persons in the region on both sides of the border.

International Alert is proud to present its new annual report, “Peace Talks”, which looks back at Alert’s work and impact in 2011 – when Alert celebrated its 25th year – using dialogue as a theme.
