Rethinking drug policy from a peacebuilding perspective

This project looked at issues of drug trafficking and organised crime in Afghanistan, the Colombia-Peru border and Nigeria, culminating in the production of a research report.

Over the past few years, we have seen a wave of drug policy reform and reflection across the world, from Colombia to Mexico and Uruguay and even some parts of the United States. These changes gave us a critical opportunity to discuss the successes and challenges of current drug control policies.

Tackling organised crime and conflict in Mali

This project aims to contribute to a more comprehensive and lasting peace process in Mali by increasing understanding of the impact that crime and trafficking have on its implementation.

Illegal trade in drugs, weapons and goods, and people trafficking across the Sahel, has been a powerful dynamic in the formation of armed groups in northern Mali. The implementation of the peace agreement is a critical opportunity to address this issue head on. The failure to do so would likely threaten the sustainability of the process.
