This report focuses on the issues of safe and secure storage and disposal of ammunition. It is part of a wider effort by the Biting the Bullet project organisations and their partners to raise awareness and promote effective responses to the risks associated with small and light weapons (SALW) ammunition. The report highlights the character and scale of the problems of storage and disposal of ammunition; clarifies the associated hazards and risks; outlines key guidelines relating to safe, secure management of ammunition stocks; review options for destruction and disposal of surplus ammunitions; and identifies some priorities and proposals for further international action.
