Empowering Syrian art in exile
This project strengthened the capacity and expertise of Syrian artists and cultural figures based in Lebanon to play an active role in building long-term resilience and recovery with Syrian refugee communities.
Artistic projects can at once facilitate the engagement of artists in their host environments, encourage cooperation and a supportive atmosphere, and act as a catalyst for Syrian art in other countries.
The project enabled artists to collaborate with their peers and strengthen the value of art as a means of combating the challenges of the prevailing Syrian situation in light of the refugee crisis and the growing frustration it brings.
The artists’ initiatives increased access to culture for communities, created space for dialogue, and enhanced connections between artists as well as between artists and communities.
This project ran from October 2015 to September 2016.
