In Burundi we provide support to civil society, which we have been doing since the start of the peace process in the mid-1990s.
We encourage inclusive participation in peacebuilding and economic reform. We advocate for conflict-sensitive economic development and the integration of women’s needs into the national poverty reduction strategy. We train women in conflict resolution and promote their active role in peacebuilding. We also helped to develop a civil society organisation for monitoring government action and now work with the media to publicise its findings.
Our work is important because people’s economic and political marginalisation poses a significant obstacle to long-term peace in Burundi.
We have been working in Burundi since 1995.
