Harnessing the potential of oil for Uganda's peaceful development
This project aimed to harness the potential of oil to contribute to Uganda’s peaceful development.
Improving understanding and interaction between local communities, the government and oil companies is crucial in minimising the risk of conflicts caused by oil exploration in Uganda, and in ensuring the country does not fall prey to the 'resource curse'.
We carried out research, set up oil information centres and encouraged companies to fully incorporate conflict-sensitive business practices into their operations.
Through our research and legislators' guide, we developed a reputation across government for reliable, transparent, objective and apolitical information on oil and gas exploration in Uganda.
This project ran from January 2010 to December 2017.
