Director, Peacebuilding Advisory Unit
Summer found her way to peacebuilding through a passion for bringing people together and wanting to find contextual specific ways for people to discuss and resolve their issues. Having worked on a number of different issues, she found that common challenges holding people, communities and nations from peacefully moving forward include lack of space for dialogue, lack of political will for equitable resource distribution and low investment in providing for the basic needs of individuals. These coupled with in general, the way aid is administered and implemented, led her to focus on the ways that we as a global society could improve.
In Summer’s current role, she oversees a number of thematic teams who explore and advocate for specific issues in and on peacebuilding and conflict sensitivity. Before joining Alert, she managed a variety of programmes and projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America, focusing on issues including governance, transparency, inclusion, economics, environment, youth, civil society and the media. She has an MBA from American University with a focus on Global Strategy and a BA in International Relations from the University of San Diego.
