Access to healthcare as a tool for preventing tensions

Assisting Lebanese NGOs to reduce tensions stemming from the refugee crisis

This project is reducing tensions between local Lebanese communities and Syrian refugees in areas served by health and social centres that are run by Lebanese NGO Amel Association International (Amel).

We are equipping Amel’s health and social workers from thirteen centres with a variety of skills so they can more effectively support social stability and measure their impact. The trainings are developing their stress management, conflict resolution, dialogue and communication skills.

We are also conducting meetings with key officials and civil society representatives working on healthcare and social stability in selected areas to discuss the impact of the refugee presence on services and social tensions. These meetings are keeping Amel and other organisations informed about the changing context so that they can adapt their programmes to address emerging needs and sources of tension.
