This is the summary of a final evaluation of the Promoting consultative extractive practices and peace-oriented local advocacy in Kyrgyzstan project, which aimed to prevent conflicts and build peaceful dialogue between mining companies and local communities.
As a pilot, the project has achieved strong community-level results within a short time period. Project beneficiaries have become more confident in analysis and advocacy related to mining, they have greater knowledge of the law, and they have begun to understand how to act to promote the interests of their communities, and what steps to take to build dialogue with companies. Many of them now feel able to express their grievances without resorting to violent conflict. This is a strong starting point, and this engagement with local communities must continue to capitalise on this momentum.
