British actor Pip Torrens has officially announced his support for the peacebuilding charity International Alert, at an exclusive night of peace and ice cream hosted by International Alert and Ben & Jerry’s.
Torrens, well-known for his roles in the Netflix Drama The Crown, as well as films such as The Iron Lady, War Horse and Star Wars, said: “Conflict is on the rise, and it is more important now than ever for all of us to support efforts to build peace. This is why I am supporting International Alert, who work with people impacted by conflict in over 20 countries to build lasting peace.”
The guests tried ice cream made with pistachios from the Syrian town of Aleppo and learnt to make their own waffles, at the event on 6 December. They also listened to experts from Syria speaking about community projects to stop further violence and to help citizens reconcile.
Served at Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop in London, the ice cream is part of a limited-edition series, with waffle cones made with pistachios sourced from an internally displaced centre in Aleppo, where women prepare, roast and sell them for a living.
Harriet Lamb, CEO of International Alert said: “We are delighted that Pip Torrens supports our work, which is urgently needed to help tackle the global rise in conflict and build peace. More lives are lost in conflict now than at any time in the last 25 years, so we all need to pull our resources to solve the root causes of conflict and bring people together from across divides.”
