International Alert welcomes the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet for helping the country's transition to democracy.
This shines a welcome light on the positive progress in Tunisia, and on the role of civil society there. The Quartet has played a key role in building consensus among the country's different political actors and in allowing a peaceful transition to the elections in 2014, helping ensure that Tunisia remains the great success story of the Arab Spring so far.
We encourage others to follow their example, working with courage and determination to promote the participation of all Tunisians – especially young and marginalised people from all parts of the country – to ensure a continued, peaceful and inclusive transition.
The main focus of Alert’s own work in Tunisia is to encourage and support this. Find out more here.
