Continuing professional development (CPD) specialist – UK

Based: London, UK
Closing date: 11 December 2018

We are a global organisation whose people are its most valuable asset. Capacity-building, or continuing professional development (CPD), is at the core of our ability to achieve our ambitions. Yet we currently lack effective, institutionalised and accessible approaches to the delivery of core induction and CPD needs of our staff globally and we have a very limited central CPD budget.

We are therefore looking for a CPD specialist to bring their international perspective to get our CPD strategy up and running. Working alongside and in close cooperation with the HR and IT teams in London, the consultant will deliver the following:

  • produce report documenting user requirements, pedagogical approaches and suitable open source materials
  • suitable platform deployed with initial content
  • identification of next steps

We envisage that this consultancy will take place in December 2018 and January 2019. For more details, please read the terms of reference.

Our new CPD strategy and priorities include activities ranging from formal classroom training courses and online training through day-to-day activities like reading, coaching and mentoring, experiential learning, webinars and conferences, with a focus on maximising CPD impact within existing (people and budget) resources. It also relies on coordinating and fostering synergies between training being delivered within the organisation that is not centrally driven and the core CPD offering. The project is behind schedule and we lack in-house capacity that combines the specialist expertise required.

To apply for this role, please submit an expression of interest to Chief Operating Officer Sue McCready at by Tuesday 11 December 2018.

Your expression of interest should include:

  • proposed outline and methodology for the work
  • breakdown of costs
  • capacity statement of the provider

About International Alert

International Alert works with people directly affected by conflict to build lasting peace. Together, we believe peace is within our power.

We focus on solving the root causes of conflict, bringing together people from across divides. From the grassroots to policy level, we come together to build everyday peace.

Peace is just as much about communities living together, side by side, and resolving their differences without resorting to violence as it is about people signing a treaty or laying down their arms. That is why we believe that we all have a role to play in building a more peaceful future.
