Climate change in South Asia

Strengthening the response to climate variability in fragile states

This project aimed to promote cooperative and integrated approaches to the double-headed threat of climate change and insecurity in south Asia.

There are two key deficiencies that impact responses to climate change and insecurity in south Asia: gaps in knowledge about the social, political and security effects of climate change; and capacity among governmental and inter-governmental institutions to address these issues.

We carried out research into local experiences of climate change and insecurity in Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan, furthering understanding of these issues locally, regionally and internationally.

We encouraged dialogue and knowledge-sharing across borders on good practices and lessons learned. We also helped to improve the understanding and capacities of national governments and institutions in the region.
