Women, citizenship and peacebuilding in DRC
This project aimed to contribute to a more inclusive Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by fostering women's participation in decision-making and strengthening women’s role in conflict resolution.
Women’s exclusion affects all levels of society in DRC and is visible at the community level, where women are largely absent from local decision-making bodies, as well as the local, provincial and national political levels. Gender inequalities are the main barrier to women’s participation.
In partnership with the Swedish foundation Kvinna till Kvinna, we helped to address some of the social, institutional and legislative barriers to women’s equal participation in social and political life.
We trained more than 120 female candidates in political leadership in North and South Kivu provinces, supporting them to develop and implement action plans for elections.
