Prevention of and response to violence against women and girls in Mogadishu
This project aims to improve the response to and prevention of gender-based violence (GBV) in three districts of Mogadishu: Bondhere, Karaan and Yaqshid.
We believe that if the response to GBV in Mogadishu is backed up by sound knowledge and understanding of the issue, as well as holistic services and targeted advocacy, then incidences will decrease and survivors will be more likely to seek and receive better support. There will also be more comprehensive policies and strategies for addressing GBV.
Through in-depth analysis of the conflict and context, this project will strengthen local systems of referral, prevention and response to GBV at the district and community levels. It will also support the provision of more comprehensive packages of support for survivors, including medical, psychosocial and legal services, and the promotion of women’s economic empowerment.
By identifying and addressing the social norms that allow and perpetuate GBV, we also hope to help local people develop community-based prevention strategies.
