A priority for the campaign has been to research, formulate and advocate policies and practices, which integrate a gender perspective into the security and development strategies of the international community.  This is informed by the experiences of International Alert's programmes and partners in conflict regions.

The United Nations and European Union have recently passed Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security. Our current focus is to develop practical mechanisms and recommendations for their effective and full implementation, by strengthening our working relationships with relevant UN and EU agencies. This is done through:   

Policy related research and analysis on which recommendations for gender integration in security policies can be based. This is done at local, national, regional and international levels to elicit gender perspectives on peace and security issues. We publish and disseminate policy research papers and briefings, with recommendations, for policy makers and practitioners within the UN, EU, peace and security institutions, parliamentarians, training institutions and other relevant stakeholders.

Policy dialogue between local actors, practitioners and policy makers to influence policy development.  

Awareness-raising and resource sharing through our publications and at relevant meetings, seminars and conferences.
