About me

A global learning specialist, an Associate Lecturer in International Development at The Open University and a visiting lecturer on the BA Hons and MA Youth and Community Development courses of the University of Manchester, the University of Cumbria and Leeds Metropolitan University, I have worked with some of the most marginalised young women and men in the UK and globally.

Involvement in face to face youth work with some of the most marginalised young women and men in the UK and globally has involved me in facilitating a wide range of young people to explore their place in society and wider global processes and take sustainable developmental and advocacy action, building global coalitions and alliances, in settings as diverse as deprived inner-city communities in the UK; prisons in the UK and Sierra Leone; amidst the slums of Mumbai, Bangkok and Chiangmai, in diaspora communities in conflict; with gang members in the UK and Honduras; and in HIV and AIDS orphanages and clinics in South African townships, India and Thailand.

I currently lead on International Alert’s partner organisation’s Positive Voices in the Diaspora project where I undertake face to face youth work with young women and men in East Lancashire from three families/clans of Pakistan heritage who are in conflict.
