Payroll giving

Payroll giving is an easy, tax efficient way to give, which allows employees to donate to any UK registered charity of their choice directly from their salary. For a higher rate taxpayer, payroll giving is the ONLY way that a charity can automatically receive all your tax on your charitable donation.

For example, if you pay tax at the basic rate (22%) it will only cost you £3.90 to donate £5. If you are a higher rate taxpayer (40%) it will only cost you £3 to donate £5. So the charity gets more and it costs you less.

The scheme is very flexible, allowing you to change the amount you donate from month to month or week to week, depending on how often you are paid.

To start donating via payroll giving, talk to your Payroll or Human Resource department who will set up the donation. If your employer does not offer this scheme, suggest that they introduce one - it is easy and inexpensive to run - ask them to contact the Charities Aid Foundation on +44 (0)1732 520019.
