Why support International Alert
You will be supporting a young and growing charity, where your help will have a significant impact.
-
You get a direct service from us, with clear and personalised reports about the measurable impacts of our projects.
-
We can offer simple employee focused schemes, such as Payroll Giving, that are straightforward for you to set up and demonstrate your company’s commitment to social responsibility.
- You get an enhanced corporate image and positive publicity in the UK and in countries where we work across the world.
Involving your employees in charity work can help with team-building while fundraising events can motivate and unite your workforce behind a common goal helping you to recruit and retain staff.

Payroll giving
Payroll Giving is the most tax efficient way to help build peace; it allows you to give straight from your wages before you are taxed. So if you pay tax at the basic rate, a £10 donation only costs you £8.
If you’re in the higher tax bracket (40%) it will only cost you £6 to donate £10. So the charity gets more and it costs you less. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, payroll giving is the only way that we can automatically receive all the tax on your donation.
Payroll giving shows that your organisation cares about the causes close to its employees.
From boosting employee morale and raising your organisation's profile, to enhancing community involvement programmes, payroll giving is good for business. To show their commitment to the scheme, many companies also offer matched giving, effectively doubling or tripling employees' gifts, providing further incentives for staff to take part.
If you’d like to support peace through payroll giving, ask your HR or payroll department if there’s a scheme at your workplace. If so, you can set up your donations through them.
If your employer does not offer this scheme, suggest that they introduce one - it is easy and inexpensive to run. We can help set it up! Email fundraisingor call 020 7627 6840
Business and Peace Fund
Alert’s Business and Peace Fund supports our work to promote best business practice in conflict-prone areas. Independent donations to the Fund allow Alert to work with companies without having direct financial relationships and thereby without compromising impartiality.
Contact us to find out how your business can get involved.
Fundraising at work
Fundraising at work is a great way to boost your company’s reputation and it also provides a great opportunity for colleagues to get to know each other better and have fun.
There are many fun ways to raise money for our peacebuilding work. We've compiled a list of some top work-based fundraising activities for you and your colleagues or you can come up with your own ideas.
Why not try…. -
Karaoke, a wine tasting evening or a ten pin bowling tournament – socialise for a donation!
-
A dress down day – go back to the 80s, 70s or 60s!
-
A tea making auction – the highest bidder will have their tea and coffees made for them all week.
-
Getting competitive and inviting nearby companies or companies within your industry to take part in a charity football match or a pub quiz
-
Get a team together to enter the Brighton Marathon or rope some colleagues into taking part in a skydive
Don't forget to ask your company to match the total that you raise
Making a gift in kind
Companies and individuals can make an invaluable contribution to International Alert by donating their products and services, equipment or facilities.
Could your organisation provide us with conference/meeting venues, office equipment, goody bags at events, promotional or raffle prizes or staff training opportunities?
By saving International Alert’s resources, more of the money we raise can go directly to our projects.
Giving shares
Making a donation of Company shares is a tax effective way for you to make a significant donation. This type of giving is not only simple, it is a great way to enhance corporate social responsibility.
Nominating us as your company's Charity of the Year
A great way to support us is adopting International Alert as your Charity of the Year. By taking part in fun and exciting events and initiatives, your staff will help raise vital funds throughout the year as well as providing important outreach and visibility for both International Alert and the whole peacebuilding sector.
We can help you create an exciting and mutually beneficial partnership.
For more information and to discuss the different ways we can work together please call us on 020 7627 6800 or email fundraising@international-alert.org.

Trusts and foundations
Donations from trusts and foundations are vital to the ongoing development and success of our work. More than a quarter of our income currently comes from trusts and foundations in the UK and overseas. Their generous support enables us to address the root causes of violence and bring about lasting improvement in some of the least stable regions of the world.
Many trusts choose to support our general fund. This income is extremely valuable as it enables us to direct our resources to the projects of greatest need and priority. We recognise that some trusts prefer to support specific project work and our Fundraising Team is able to work with individual trusts to find appropriate projects that match their funding criteria.
We are always keen to develop relationships with new trusts and foundations. If you are a trustee or have links with a trust or foundation that shares our aims, we would be happy to hear from you. Please contact the Fundraising Team on +44 (0)20 7627 6800 to find out more.

Do your own thing!
Why fundraise? With real lasting peace comes the opportunity for communities to rebuild lives torn apart by fighting and for a country to take real steps out of poverty. Without peace, aid often can’t reach those who need it.
By fundraising, you can help Alert continue its work in over 20 countries and territories around the world. You’ll also help raise invaluable awareness of our organisation and the importance of peacebuilding. .
On a less serious note, fundraising can be a lot of fun and very rewarding!
Whatever you decide to do, every penny will help make a difference. And our fundraising team’s on hand to support you in any way they can!
We believe peace is possible – do you? Get in touch today to get involved!
Inspiration
Our supporters have been wonderful in organising a whole range of fundraising projects, raising hundreds of pounds for our work.
If you want to do something, think about: -
What skills or talents you have (are you a budding musician, keen sportsman, talented cocktail maker?)
-
Your contacts (where do your friends work? which shop owners or local landlords do you know?)
-
What you and your friends like doing (do you enjoy eating out, dancing the night away or taking on a challenge?)
-
What’s popular where you live?
And use your imagination! We’re here to support you. Just make sure it’s safe and legal.
Jump for Alert
Who would have thought that jumping out of a plane could help build peace? Help us raise funds by making a sponsored parachute jump from 10,000 feet and if you raise enough you will even get to jump for free! No prior physical training or experience required!

Legacy
The origins of most violent conflicts go back years, if not decades or centuries. Most of these conflicts take place in developing countries, especially the very poorest ones. Many are long-lasting and will take years to heal.
By including International Alert in your will, you will be making a valuable contribution to peace by enabling us to continue supporting communities affected or threatened by violent conflict. Your legacy will help us build a peaceful future for individuals and their families recovering from violent conflict.
Why make a will?
Making a will makes things easier for those tending to your affairs after your death, and it ensures that, after all the relatives and friends you love are provided for, your legacy can also contribute to the causes that are closest to your concerns and hopes.
For further information, please contact the Fundraising Team on +44 (0)20 7627 6800.
How to leave a legacy gift?
You can leave a gift to International Alert in your will in 3 ways:
- A residuary legacy (all or part of the net value of your estate)
- A pecuniary legacy (a specific sum of money)
- A specific legacy (a particular item of value, such as jewellery, property or shares)
Whatever you leave, however large or small, will help to create a world where conflicts are managed and resolved without violence.
We recommend that you consult a solicitor before making or amending your will. He or she will be able to ensure that your will is legally valid and that everything you need to cover is included.
For more information please contact the Fundraising Team on +44 (0)20 7627 6800.
