Dear Colleague,
Welcome to the September edition of Alert's e-bulletin.
Did
you know that today is International Day of Peace 2009? We are
delighted to join with peace organisations and individuals around the
world to mark this day. We’d like to take this opportunity to invite
you to take part and celebrate this important reminder of why we need
to build peace. You can find out how to participate here.
This
month we cover a wide range of issues on which we work. You can learn
about our new report on Uganda’s newly discovered oil reserves; our
work towards the socio-economic reintegration of ex-combatants; and our
efforts to promote dialogue on security guarantees in the context of
the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict. You can read about our ongoing commitment
to aid effectiveness in the UK; our advocacy work on climate change and
conflict; and our cross-regional training for developing
gender-sensitive indicators in peacebuilding programmes.
You
can also find out more about our events and upcoming training courses;
and as part of our partnership with radio station Passion for the
Planet, you can listen to a series of interviews with Alert’s experts
aimed at deepening the public’s understanding of peacebuilding.
