Reconciliation in Liberia
Strengthening civil society's voice to deal with the past
This project aimed to strengthen the voice of Liberia’s civil society organisations in the national reconciliation process.
Liberia has made remarkable progress and recovery since the end of its civil war, but still faces some challenges for long-term peace. These include a lack of communication between citizens and the government, the potential for violence and feuds due to a lack of formal justice mechanisms, and weak civil society.
We helped to improve communication and understanding between communities and policy-makers on the conflict risks and opportunities for long-term peace and reconciliation in the country by strengthening the voice of civil society in the national reconciliation process and supporting the role of the National Civil Society Council of Liberia.
