International Alert, together with Amnesty International UK, CARE International UK, Oxfam GB, WOMANKIND Worldwide, Women for Women International UK, and other members of the Gender Action for Peace and Security (GAPS) network, is launching the No Women No Peace. competition, a competition for creative people.
The situation
Women are a prime target in conflicts across the world. Yet when it comes to building peace women are excluded from the table. That’s not only bad for women, it’s bad for peace. You can’t build peace leaving half the people out.
The UN Security Council Resolution 1325
Almost 10 years ago the UN and its member states acknowledged this situation and unanimously adopted resolution 1325 which calls for the systematic involvement of women in peacebuilding. This October will mark a decade of the resolution; however, the situation remains much the same. The No women, no peace. campaign will try and change this.
No women, no peace. The competition
We want you to put this message out. Were calling on imaginative, artistic and innovative people to develop creative content for our No women, no peace. campaign. We need films, photos, art pieces, illustrations, animations or any art or design piece that can convey importance of the role of women in building peace and solving conflict.
The message
Women are a vital untapped resource in peacebuilding. Their experiences of violence and insecurity go unheard and their roles in ensuring stability for their communities are overlooked. We want to send a positive message.
We want to celebrate women’s achievements and highlight their potential as a powerful force for change. Our message is simple: No women, no peace.
This autumn No women, no peace. will commemorate the 10 year anniversary of an important UN resolution on women and peace-building and push the UK Government to take action. Be part of it.
