Sub-regional work in West Africa
Our work at the regional level in West Africa is carried out
through a combination of research, advocacy and capacity-building on a variety of issues. We work with civil society groups, government and others so that the views of ordinary people in the region are heard and fed into policy that impacts on human security in the region.
Our regional projects include:
Countering the impact of oil in
the Gulf of Guinea Building on our work in Sao Tome and Principe, this project aims to build the capacity of civil society in oil producing
countries to promote and scrutinise the implementation of good practice by
those involved in oil extraction at national, regional and international
levels. |

| Promoting UN Resolution 1325 on gender and peacebuilding A new project to supportwomen’s grassroots peacebuilding initiatives in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, as well as advocating for a focus on gender issues in peacebuilding at the regional and international levels. |

Diamonds for Development In collaboration with UNDP, this project aims to promote a well-managed and effectively run diamond industry in the region which could transfer wealth generated by the industry to workers and those who need support.

| Research and policy work around small
arms and light weapons We have conducted research and policy work on the implementation of
small arms controls in West Africa, combatting the illicit trade in weapons that still plagues the region. |
