International Alert has been working in West Africa since 1993. Some of our previous activities include:
Linking ECOWAS and West African civil society – With Alert's support, the West African Civil Society Forum was created in 2003 as a platform for civil society to influence ECOWAS on human security issues. |

| Mano River Union Peace Forum – Established with the help of Alert, this permanent forum of 24 civil society representatives from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea advocates for peace, monitors events in the region and makes formal representations to governments and inter-governmental bodies. |

Encouraging good governance in Nigeria – This project promoted discussion between local people and elected officials on the promises made by parliamentarians during Nigeria's election campaigns. |
