Working with churches

The influence and reach of churches in the Great Lakes means that they have immense potential to work for peace in the region. We work to motivate and support religious leaders to this end.

In the past we have worked with local church-oriented organisations aimed at building solidarity between the churches of Burundi, DRC and Rwanda. This work has included peace missions to conflict regions where meetings between church leaders, congregations and the authorities have lead to Peace Declarations, and conflict mediation between ethnic groups within the churches has lead to reconciliation.

We are currently working with the Anglican church in the UK and in Burundi to identify potential joint projects for regional and local work, and we have been following the establishment of a new regional forum of churches with a view to possibly collaborate with them in the future.
