We are extremely grateful for your generous support and in particular your belief that peace is possible. So I wanted to thank you for making a difference to the thousands of people whose lives have been torn apart by violence. We have seen real progress in communities where we work and we couldn't have done it without you. With your support we can help many more in 2013.
Peace itself is very different for each person and each unique situation. But for many of the people that we reach in 25 countries it is simply living without fear, taking their children to school in safety or earning a living and feeding their family without the threat of violence. To get there after war, people have to come together from different sides of the conflict, reflect on their experience and understand why it all happened in the first place. By finding the underlying causes of conflict, we can prevent it from happening again. Please help us to continue our work in building peace.
Building peace is a slow process. Conflict cannot be resolved by an influx of emergency aid or short-term fixes. It takes a decade or more. We have to be there for the long haul. Find out what we've achieved together in 2012.
There is so much we could tell you about our 50 active programmes in over 25 countries. Now, as we look forward to 2013, we plan to grow and reach even more people. Please be part of this – support International Alert and help us to build a more peaceful place for the future. We know it’s possible and so do those that we help.
With thanks and thoughts of happy holidays,
Dan Smith
Secretary General, International Alert
