From 1999 to 2004, the Ituri district, in the extreme north-eastern part of the Congo, was the scene of horrific community violence. An estimated 50,000 people were killed and a further 500,000 displaced during this time.

Land-based conflict has been and countries to be a major factor behind the violence in Ituri, and is perceived as one of the primary sources of tension between the local communities.

In this complex context, several local organisations have come together to form a peacebuilding network. The Reseay Haki na Amani (RHA) is involved in local conflict resolution, mediation and reconciliation. Land-based conflict is central to the work done by RHA.
