Volunteer and International Alert Responsibilities
Volunteers are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week
for a minimum of 6 months
Alert will ensure that the volunteer has an agreed job description
and that he or she is given a proper induction. All volunteers
are given regular supervision from the staff member responsible,
which should provide an opportunity for both volunteer and supervisor
to feed back on progress and discuss any problems.
Expenses
We cover the costs of travel to and from work and, for each day
that a volunteer works 4 hours or more we also pay for lunch (up
to £3.75 per day).
Volunteers are entitled to Job Seekers Allowance and Housing
Benefit and continue to receive National Insurance contribution
credits provided that when they register they declare that they
are actively seeking employment and dont receive any payment
for the work that they do. They must be willing and able to attend
job interviews or take up a job on being given 48 hours notice.
Volunteering at Alert should therefore not affect these benefits.
If a volunteer is seeking paid employment, their Alert supervisor
can be approached to supply a reference.
