International Alert employs over 100 people of 30 nationalities both in our London offices and in the regions where we work. Most are full-time staff, but we also engage consultants, interns and volunteers.

Some of these staff are part of our regional programmes in 20 countries or territories, working closely with partner organisations in conflict areas. Others focus on research, policy and advocacy on a range of conflict-related themes. They are backed by London-based financial and administrative departments and by our fundraising and communications teams.

Senior Fundraising Officer
Salary: Negotiable (depending on experience), starting from £34,000, plus excellent benefits
Based: London
Closing Date : Friday 17th September 2010 at 5pm

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced fundraiser to take on a new challenge with responsibility for private fundraising (excluding Major Donors). You will be part of a new team and will take the lead on developing strategy, diversifying income streams and meeting targets.

You will be confident in taking the initiative on new areas including events, direct marketing, trusts and foundations and corporates. You will be experienced in more than one of these areas and have a demonstrable talent for delivering results. Success will come with your ability to create opportunities and transform them into successful fundraising ventures.

This post requires a combination of excellent interpersonal, negotiating, influencing and written and verbal communication skills and experience. You will have a flair for networking and be target-driven and as an experienced fundraiser you will understand that results are key and not just activity.

Senior Training Officer: Peacebuilding
Salary: £34,002 p.a. (with more for an exceptional candidate) + excellent benefits, including five weeks annual leave, 10% non contributory pension scheme, and subsidised gym membership.
Based: London, with approximately 50% of time in the field, mostly in Central Asia (Only those with the right to work in the UK should apply)

We are looking for Russian speaking Senior Training Officer to join a dynamic team in delivering training on peace building and conflict sensitivity. As Senior Training Officer, you will have responsibility for training government officials, UN agencies and civil society organisations. With a particular focus on Central Asia and the Caucasus, you will assist programmes improve the quality and impact of their peace building and conflict sensitivity efforts whilst also strengthening Alert’s ability to influence the policies and practices of governments, donors and other agencies. We are looking for a creative individual with the ability to lead innovation, contribute to learning and to deliver bespoke training courses to a variety of audiences. With a relevant degree and excellent training skills, you have a proven ability to train effectively in Russian and English.

Country Manager - Tajikistan

Based: Dushanbe, with substantial national and regional travel

We are looking for a responsible individual to lead the implementation of Alert’s engagement in Tajikistan, developing in further detail the next stages of Alert’s peacebuilding strategy in the country. A key part of the job is to develop a reputation for quality strategic, peacebuilding work and to grow the programme to a steady expenditure a minimum of £300,000 a year. Additionally, the job holder will be required to support the team in Kyrgyzstan and may take the lead on some regional peacebuilding projects.


You will have a talent for managing a mixed and challenging portfolio of projects whilst being entrepreneurial in developing new ideas and concepts. This reflects the developmental nature of the role in a region where there is scope for Alert to build on what is currently a modest programme of activity. Gaining and maintaining the trust and respect of both senior political figures and strong local organisations will be critical to success, as well as building and managing a well functioning team in Tajikistan.

Senior Advisor - Kyrgyzstan

We are looking for a high level advisor to work closely with and support the Kyrgyzstan Country Manager to both implement existing programme commitments and develop new programming opportunities. In particular, the post holder will work at a high level with political, civil society and business leaders, nurturing strategic partnerships and crafting programme strategy at the track 1.5 level. Some of this work will reach beyond Kyrgyzstan into other parts of Central Asia.

You will have an ability to develop high level dialogue initiatives. You will also have a strong talent for persuasion and strong listening, facilitation and research skills. You will have the ideas and drive to develop this high level work further, both in Kyrgyzstan and the wider region.

Pogramme Officer
Based: Nepal
Closing Date : 29th August

The successful candidate will lead project implementation, including designing and undertaking research, training and facilitating dialogue. You will act as a first point of contact for partner organisations and local stakeholders, providing support and guidance where needed. In the first instance, this position will play a key role in implementing International Alert Nepal’s Security and Justice strand of work, with responsibility for coordinating and leading the implementation of activities in districts across Nepal. You will also contribute to the development and implementation of the programme’s new activities and will be a key member of a talented and dynamic team.

INTERNS

Interns at Alert
Alert has a number of graduate interns who spend a six months internship with one of our programme teams. These are full-time positions and work ranges from providing support to programme staff with administrative work to research and organisation of events.

We very much value the work of our interns and try to ensure that their skills and abilities develop during their time with us. They are given the opportunity to gain insight into how an international NGO operates and to learn about the peacebuilding sector and Alert’s work within it. They receive an allowance of approximately £12,000 per year pro rata.”.

Peace Day Fundraising

Based : London

Date : International Peace Day - 21st September

Volunteers needed to help mark International Peace Day on 21st September by fundraising for us and promoting International Alert!

In order to do this we have been allocated space in four of the busiest underground stations in Central London to hold collections;

Euston Station
Victoria Station
King's Cross St Pancras
Bond Street Station

Duties:

Taking our collection tins to one of the above stations and fundraising for International Alert
Promoting International Alert
Promoting International Peace Day

Skills:

All we ask is that you be bubbly and approachable.
